The Burger to Beat

The Burger to Beat

So you’ve been grilling burgers for over 30 years - the same way practically every time.  Rarely if ever do you stray far from the “recipe,”  Sadly, the measure of grilling success for most of us is if it’s cooked right, not how it tastes. This 4th, commit to bringing you’re “A" game.  Mix it up a bit - try any one or combination of these variations to create the burger to beat.

Grind It

Chuck is the Steady-Eddy of beef burgers, but there are plenty of alternatives, including ground …

  • Rib eye
  • Beef rib and brisket blend (Skirt and tenderloin work as well)
  • Sirloin
  • Turkey
  • Lamb
  • Sirloin/Sausage blend

 Dress It

It’s tough to beat bacon, lettuce, tomato and onion, but there are plenty of new contenders to consider.

  • Crispy fried onion wisps
  • Horseradish & mayo mix
  • BBQ sauce
  • Mushrooms
  • Sweet relish
  • Pesto
  • Chiles
  • Goat cheese
  • Fried egg

 Cover It

This is not the time of year to go topless.  Eating burgers without buns is sacrilege.  If you’re bringing your “A” game to the grill, then that means quality buns.  Keep the Wonder bread on ice and try one of these other options this year.

  • Potato rolls
  • Brioche buns
  • Kaiser rolls
  • Pretzel rolls
  • Ciabatta
  • Pita pockets
